Props for Creativity and Originality… But That’s About It
MesAyah’s Paradise of Paradigms EP is something different. That isn’t to say it’s different in a bad way or in a good way, though I think it’s fair to say some is bad and some is good. Self-described as “Nas meets Peter Gabriel for conversations about life”, it’s certain that MesAyah is not someone to be completely overlooked.
On the whole, the evocative and philosophic lyrics are lost on experimental flow and dark and ambient backbeats. Though, there is something here to latch onto.

That something to latch onto is that MesAyah is original. He’s from Norway (not exactly a hip hop hot bed), he’s willing to break convention, and he preaches his own thoughts and ethos, untainted by what he “should” be rapping about or sharing with his listeners. MesAyah’s sound is undoubtedly something all his own and his style is also, but unfortunately that style may be lost on some… myself included. His most “unoriginal” sounding track, oddly enough, is “Alien Encounters”… this also happens to be the only track that I can vibe on at all.
If you are looking for something fresh in hip hop, MesAyah deserves his shot. And, while his sound is not for everyone, he certainly has a niche. Maybe you are his niche… if you don’t check him out yourself, you’ll never know.
