The Ballad of YFB is a story of love, success, adversity, and life… more specifically, it’s the story of a band that sets out to make a name for themselves and accomplishes just that. What comes next is compromised values, adveristy, and other well documented components of the so-called “harsh face of stardom”. Oh… and a robot…

Man vs. machine is an age old theme in literature and pop culture. In this story brough to us by Chainsaw Comics, the band is pitted again a robotic maestro called The Hitmaker Algorithm. It’s sole reason for existence is to produce music that is pleasing and popular. The band is forced to battle the robot head to head in order to prove that humanity is needed in ored to create real music.

The story goes on to twist and turn in many interesting ways, concluding with a twist that most people (myself, for sure) will not see coming.

Dark yet delightful, full of insights yet playful, The Ballad of YFB is a wonderful piece of art that proves relevant, fun, and well written.

If you seek colorful, highly involved artwork, look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a well crafted and easy to follow graphic novel that will resonate with you, this is where it’s at.
